My Favorite Search Engine

This is my first assignment for my CIS Class...writing about my favorite search engine. I have to say, I don't have a lot of experience with different search engines. I usually stick with Google. So I guess that's my favorite search engine.
When I think back to my first days of using the internet, it wasn't Google that I chose to search for things, it was Yahoo. I think I selected that one, because that's the first email account I ever had...not to mention, Google didn't exist yet. So it just seemed natural to continue to look for things on Yahoo.
I remember vividly one day (several years later) my brother yelled at me for always using Yahoo. He told me how it was a horrible search engine and I needed to "get with the times". He said Google would bring up better information and I would be more knowledgeable, like him. Ha, really!?!? So I tried his "Google"...and I liked it! It was clean and simple. All it said was "Google". Sure, there were a few other links on there. But it wasn't crowded with all kinds of categories and links like Yahoo. I appreciated the "less is more" approach that Google took.
So, I started looking for things on Google. Then, I switched my mail over to Google. Soon, I became the avid "google-r"! It ended up being my answer to everything. When my daughter calls and wants to know something, I respond with "Google that, Alex". When I'm talking to friends about how I did research on the latest food trends, I tell them "Yeah...I Googled that". I always tell me husband, "If you don't believe me, just go ask Google!". Not only does it bring up great information, but it's also FUN to say!
Some of the things I really appreciate about Google (besides it's simplicity) are:
  • The maps - Yes...I can see things in many different views, find restaurants next to the hotel where I'm staying, and stand on the street and swirl around to see all the houses.
  • Shopping - It's great to look for a pair of Asics Gel Nimbus and find it at many different locations, in my size, and then sort by price.
  • The option to change the search time - I LOVE that feature. If I'm looking for the latest information on diet research, I can set the time feature to within the past year. This way, I get the most current information.
  • Access to mail - I can access my mail, Google Plus, or Google Drive right from the home page.
  • Access to my blog - Of course, Google wouldn't be cool if I couldn't access my blog from the main page...YAY for Google!
So there you have it...the reason I started using Google (thanks, bro!) and why I continue to use it!

Now go Google something! www.google.com
